‘‘In relation to the present, the Cold War was possibly the last moment in which ideologies that responded to different values and utopias confronted each other. The driving force behind the forces of the countries of the global South was primarily sovereignty and freedom. They sought self-determination and management of their own resources without interference from foreign powers. It was the struggle for the realization of political dreams that attracted the attention of a large part of the societies of developed countries, which translated into greater interest in and commitment to events occurring in other parts of the world, about which there was not much information, as is the case now thanks to the enormous technological advances, social networks and the greater presence of the media. Now, citizen mobilization in the countries of the global North has clearly declined, and the existing ones are mobilized more than anything else in the face of outrages such as those occurring against the Palestinian people, but, in general, to a much lesser degree than decades ago. This is evidenced by the fact that other causes have practically lost all visibility, such as the Saharawi or indigenous movements in different parts of the planet, especially in Latin America.’’
