4th Annual Movie Screening – Dr. Strangelove

17 June 2026
16:00 - 18:00
Utrecht University, Drift 23 – Room 212

The Cold War Research Network is pleased to host its fourth annual movie screening, featuring a showing of Dr. Strangelove (1964)!

About the movie: The movie satirizes Cold War nuclear tensions and is widely considered one of the greatest and influential political satires ever made. It all started when a mentally feeble US Air Force general launched a nuclear attack on the USSR, causing panic among politicians, military officials, and scientists who desperately tried to stop a global catastrophe. The film merges dark comedy with a chillingly realistic portrayal of nuclear warfare and the doctrine of mutually assured destruction. If you have not seen this thriller, do not hesitate in joining us the 17th of June, 2026 at 16:00 on Drift 23 – room 212!

About the speaker: Prior to watching the movie itself, Dr. Laura Copier (Media and Culture Studies) will give an introduction, contextualizing the broader history and culture of Dr. Strangelove. Afterwards, there will be time for discussing the movie together with the audience. Subsequently, there will be drinks in order to conclude the event!

Feel free to share this event with friends or family! We hope to encounter you the 17th of June!
