How to use it?
The Cold War Research Resources includes more than 100 useful archives, resource lists, websites, projects, and datasets. They are organized into six sections:
- Name: All archives, websites, resource lists, projects, and datasets can be found by their names.
- Country/Region: It is grouped by country (such as USA, USSR, Netherlands) and region (such as Africa, Anglosphere, Eastern Europe, NATO, Europe).
- Keywords: This category describes the focus of each archive, website, resource list, project, or dataset.
- Language: Indicates the language(s) in which the website and/or documents are available.
- Links: Provides direct links to archives, websites, resource lists, projects, and datasets.
- Paid: Specifies whether access to the content requires payment. Most resources are free, but some may require a (university) subscription to view the content.
When researching a Cold War-related topic, it is essential to determine the specific focus of your research, particularly the country or region you wish to explore. For instance, if you are studying German relations with the Netherlands in the 1970s, you might limit your search to resources under the tags ”Germany”, ”Netherlands”, ”Europe”, and ”Multiple” in the Country/Region section.
The Excel sheet allows you to filter by the desired country or region to refine your research. If the country or region you are looking for is not listed, you can use the “Multiple” tag under the Country/Region section. This tag includes links that are not confined to a single country or region.
For example, if you are researching Albanian communism in the 1970s, you can search for the “Multiple” tag under the Country/Region section to find Wikipedia articles with lists of archives by country. By visiting these Wikipedia pages, you can find various Albanian archives.
