An Event Not to Miss: 40 Years After the Kruisrakettenkwestie

Just before the start of the academic year, we are coming back with an upcoming event on 10 September in The Hague, organised by our coordinator Laurien Crump and the Centrum voor Parlementaire Geschiedenis.

The event “Democracy under Pressure: forty years after the kruisrakettenkwestie” looks back at one of the most heated debates in Dutch politics during the Cold War.

The programme includes:

  • The launch of the new website on parliamentary history during the Lubbers cabinets (1982–1994), presented by CPG director Ronald Kroeze.

  • A talk by CPG researcher and Lubbers biographer Johan van Merriënboer on Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers’ role in the missile dossier.

  • A panel discussion chaired by Laurien Crump with former MPs Bert de Vries, Ina Brouwer and Klaas de Vries, who were directly involved in defence affairs in the 1980s.

Registration after the deadline of 1 September may still be possible subject to seat availability.

Please note that the event will be held in Dutch.
